NDF Cafe Uddingston Review – 6 Dishes, Fantastic Food & Delicious Desserts!

Have you been to NDF Cafe Uddingston?

If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Uddingston, here’s another local café worth knowing about!

On this occasion, we headed along to NDF Cafe Uddingston on Main street to sample a selection of dishes from their menu.

And when I say a selection, I mean a proper selection!

We tried two starters, two main courses and two desserts, giving us a chance to experience quite a few different things.

Now, before we get started, there’s one small problem…

I can’t remember the exact names of some of the dishes! 😂

Top-tier food reviewer, I know. 😅🤦🏻‍♂️

So rather than making up menu names, I’ll do my best to describe everything we tried.

And trust me, there were some absolute belters!

NDF Cafe Uddingston is located on Main Street in Uddingston, and we decided to make the most of our visit by ordering a mixture of savoury dishes and desserts.

What I particularly liked about this experience was that I ended up trying several things I wouldn’t normally choose when eating out.

I’m usually drawn towards meat-heavy dishes, but some of the lighter starters turned out to be among my favourite things from the entire visit.

Sometimes it’s worth stepping outside your usual choices!

Starters at NDF Cafe Uddingston

We kicked things off with two starters.

And both were surprisingly good!

Portobello Mushrooms on Toast – A Pleasant Surprise

NDF CAfe uddingston

The first starter was a dish I’m going to describe as Portobello mushrooms on toast.

Again, that might not be its official menu name, but it’s the best description I can give you!

The dish featured two large Portobello mushrooms served on a piece of toast, accompanied by salad and a creamy sauce.

Now, I’ll be completely honest.

This isn’t something I’d usually order.

If you handed me a menu with this alongside a few of my usual favourites, chances are I’d be choosing something else.

But I’m really glad I gave it a try.

It was a tasty wee starter, and everything worked nicely together.

A very pleasant surprise!

Bruschetta With Chopped Salad – Absolutely Stunning!

Now, this second starter was an absolute belter!

At first glance, it looked like a fairly simple dish.

A piece of bruschetta topped with a mixture of chopped salad.

Nothing particularly extravagant.

But sometimes the simplest dishes turn out to be the best.

This was absolutely stunning!

I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.

Again, it’s not the sort of starter I’d normally gravitate towards, but the flavours were fantastic.

It just goes to show that you don’t always need something complicated to produce a really enjoyable dish.

Of the two starters, this was definitely my favourite.

And I’d happily order it again!

Main Courses at NDF Cafe Uddingston

After two really enjoyable starters, it was time to move on to the main courses.

We decided to try two very different dishes.

One was exactly the sort of thing I’d normally order.

The other was something a wee bit different.

Steak and Eggs – Right Up My Street!

First up was the steak and eggs.

Now we’re talking! 😂

This is much more like the sort of dish I’d usually choose when eating out.

A good-sized steak served with two eggs and a side salad.

Simple, straightforward and right up my street.

Sometimes you don’t need anything particularly fancy.

A decent steak with a couple of eggs is always going to catch my attention.

And this was a good, satisfying main course.

Curry-Spiced Shakshuka – Perfect Comfort Food!

The second main course was a dish I’d describe as a curry-flavoured shakshuka.

For anyone unfamiliar with shakshuka, it’s traditionally a dish featuring eggs cooked in a spiced tomato sauce, often with vegetables.

This particular version had a spicy, tomato-based flavour with vegetables throughout.

And it turned out to be exactly the sort of meal you want on a cold Scottish day!

We visited during some particularly frosty weather, and this dish was absolutely ideal.

It had that lovely warming, comforting quality that makes certain foods perfect for winter.

A proper comfort-food dish!

The combination of spice, tomato and vegetables worked really nicely.

And while it was quite different from my usual steak-and-eggs choice, I could certainly appreciate how enjoyable it was.

If you’re someone who likes warming, spicy dishes, this could be right up your street.

Desserts at NDF Cafe Uddingston– A Surprise Winner!

After enjoying our starters and mains, there was still one very important part of the meal to get through.

Dessert!

And we decided to finish things off with two different options.

Now, if you’ve followed Ribz Reviews for any length of time, you’ll probably know that I’m usually a big fan of chocolate-based desserts.

So it takes something pretty special to beat a chocolate cake or pie in my book.

But that’s exactly what happened here!

Chocolate Pie – Lovely!

First up was the chocolate pie.

And I’ve got absolutely no complaints about this one.

It was lovely!

Exactly the sort of dessert I’d usually be drawn towards.

But surprisingly, it wasn’t my favourite dessert of the visit.

That honour went to something completely different.

Raspberry Doughnut-Style Dessert – Absolutely Divine!

Now, I’m not entirely sure what the official name of this dessert was either.

But the best way I can describe it is a raspberry doughnut-style dessert.

And honestly?

It was absolutely DIVINE!

This was one of those rare occasions when I actually preferred something over a chocolate-based dessert.

And that’s saying something! 😂

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A fantastic dessert and the perfect way to finish off an already excellent meal.

If I spotted this on the menu again, I’d certainly be tempted to order it.

What Was My Favourite Dish at NDF Cafe Uddingston?

Having tried six different dishes, there were quite a few highlights.

But if I had to pick the ones that stood out most, I’d probably go with three.

The bruschetta starter was a massive surprise.

It looked relatively simple but delivered fantastic flavour.

The curry-spiced shakshuka was another highlight, particularly because it was such a warming, comforting dish on a freezing day.

And finally, the raspberry dessert was absolutely outstanding.

Any dessert that manages to beat chocolate in my personal rankings deserves a special mention!

What I found particularly interesting was that several of my favourite dishes were things I wouldn’t normally have ordered.

That’s one of the things I love about doing these reviews.

You never quite know what you’re going to discover.

My Overall NDF Cafe Uddingston Review

All in all, this was a cracking meal!

We tried six different dishes, and there was plenty to enjoy across the starters, mains and desserts.

The biggest surprise for me was just how much I enjoyed some of the lighter dishes.

The bruschetta was stunning, the Portobello mushrooms were a pleasant surprise, and the raspberry dessert was absolutely divine.

Throw in a good steak-and-eggs dish and a lovely warming shakshuka, and you’ve got yourself a very enjoyable visit.

NDF Cafe was definitely a winner for me!

And it’s another Uddingston café I’m glad we had the chance to try.

Would I Return to NDF Cafe Uddingston?

Absolutely!

There were several things I’d happily order again, particularly that bruschetta and raspberry dessert.

But I’d also be interested in exploring more of the menu.

If this visit taught me anything, it’s that sometimes the dishes you wouldn’t normally consider are the ones that end up impressing you most.

And that’s a good enough reason to keep trying new things!
