Divitos Meikle Earnock Review – A Massive 10 Item Chippy Box in Hamilton!

Have you been to Divitos Meikle Earnock?

If you’re looking for a good fish supper in Hamilton, here’s another local chip shop worth knowing about!

On this occasion, I decided to try Divitos Meikle Earnock, Hamilton, after spotting a picture of their massive chippy box in a local Facebook group.

And I’ll tell you something…

It looked the absolute business!

Naturally, when I see a box filled with fish, chips, pizza, sausage, steak pie and all sorts of other goodies, there’s only one thing I’m going to do.

Order one for myself! 😂

So that’s exactly what happened.

And as it turned out, this was one of the better chip shop experiences I’d had around Hamilton.

Let’s get into it!

Please note: This is an older review. The chippy box cost £14.90 when I originally ordered it online. Prices, portion sizes, ingredients and availability may have changed since then, particularly with rising food costs. Always check the current menu before ordering.

Divitos Meikle Earnock – What’s in the Chippy Box?

Divitos Meikle Earnock

One of the main reasons I wanted to try this was the sheer amount of food included.

For the original price of £14.90, our chippy box contained:

  • Chips
  • Fish
  • Steak pie
  • Quarter fried pizza
  • Quarter pizza crunch
  • Hamburger
  • Sausage
  • Onion rings
  • Curry sauce
  • Pickled onions

That’s a serious amount of scran!

And because apparently that wasn’t enough food for us, we decided to add an extra portion of potato fritters.

Because let’s be honest…

You can’t visit a Scottish chippy without having some fritters! 😂

With everything laid out in front of us, it was time to see whether the food lived up to how good it looked.

The Chips – Don’t Judge Them by Their Colour!

Divitos Meikle Earnock

Whenever I visit a chip shop, there are two things I pay particular attention to.

The fish and the chips.

For me, if a chippy can get those two things right, it’s already off to a fantastic start.

And I always tend to try them first.

Now, when I opened the box from Divitos, the first thing I noticed was the colour of the chips.

They looked a little pale.

My initial thought was that they might be slightly undercooked.

But I’ll happily admit when I’m wrong.

And on this occasion, I was completely wrong!

The chips were absolutely superb!

Honestly, I couldn’t fault them.

They were exactly what I wanted from a portion of chippy chips, and I wouldn’t hesitate to order them again.

I’ve since been told that chips cooked in clean oil can have that lighter appearance, which certainly makes sense.

Whatever the reason, the important thing was how they tasted.

And these were brilliant.

A fantastic start!

The Fish – Crispy Batter and Lovely Fish Inside!

Next up was the fish.

And thankfully, it was every bit as good as the chips.

This is exactly what I’m looking for when I order fish from a chip shop.

A lovely crispy coating on the outside, with beautifully cooked, glistening fish inside.

Absolutely spot on!

There wasn’t anything complicated about it.

Just a really good piece of fish cooked the way I like it.

And when you’re reviewing a traditional Scottish chippy, that’s exactly what you want.

Between the fish and chips alone, Divitos Meikle Earnock had already made a very good impression.

Potato Fritters – A Scottish Chippy Essential!

Now, technically, the fritters weren’t included in the original box.

We added those separately.

But I’m glad we did!

For me, a good potato fritter should have a lovely crispy coating on the outside with soft, fluffy potato inside.

And that’s exactly what we got.

Crispy outside, fluffy inside.

Beautiful!

If you’re a fan of potato fritters, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Another big positive for Divitos.

Steak Pie, Pizza Crunch, Sausage and Everything Else!

Now for the rest of the box!

One of the things I really enjoyed about this order was getting the chance to try a selection of food I wouldn’t normally choose.

If I wasn’t doing food reviews, there’s a good chance I’d walk into a chip shop and order my usual favourites.

Fish, chips and maybe a fritter or two.

Job done.

But this box gave us the chance to sample quite a few different things.

We had the steak pie, fried pizza, pizza crunch, hamburger, sausage, onion rings, curry sauce and pickled onions.

And here’s a wee confession…

I don’t think I’d ever actually ordered a steak pie from a chip shop before this!

So I didn’t have much to compare it against.

That’s one of the reasons I enjoy doing these reviews, though.

They encourage me to try things I might otherwise overlook.

Rather than pretending I’m an expert on every single item, I’ll simply say this:

We managed to finish pretty much everything in the box!

And I think that tells you plenty about how much we enjoyed it.

There was nothing that stood out as a major disappointment.

Just a massive selection of traditional chip shop food that went down very well.

Is the Divitos Meikle Earnock Chippy Box Good Value for Money?

When I originally ordered this box online, it cost £14.90.

And personally, I thought that was fantastic value.

Just look at how much food was included!

Between the fish, chips, steak pie, pizzas, sausage, hamburger and all the extras, there was a serious amount of eating.

We were absolutely burst by the end of it! 😂

It’s worth repeating that this was the price at the time of my original visit.

I wouldn’t expect readers to assume the same deal is still available for that price today.

But based on what we received back then, I certainly had no complaints about the value.

Is Divitos Meikle Earnock One of the Best Chip Shops in Hamilton?

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t reviewed anywhere near as many chip shops in Hamilton as I’d like.

It’s something I really need to start doing more of!

But based on the places I had tried at the time, I was very impressed with Divitos.

In fact, I’d go as far as saying it was as good as any of the chip shops I’d reviewed around Hamilton, and better than quite a few I could think of.

The fish was brilliant.

The chips were superb.

The fritters were exactly how I like them.

And the rest of the box gave us a massive selection of food to enjoy.

It’s difficult to ask for much more than that.

Of course, one order doesn’t guarantee every visit will be the same, but this particular experience was excellent.

My Overall Divitos Meikle Earnock Review

All in all, this was a cracking chippy experience!

I originally ordered the box because I’d seen somebody sharing it online and thought it looked fantastic.

And thankfully, it lived up to expectations.

The fish and chips were the real highlights for me.

Both were absolutely spot on, and those are the two things I care about most when judging a chip shop.

The fritters were excellent too.

As for the rest of the box, it was great getting to try such a wide selection of traditional Scottish chip shop food.

Would I recommend Divitos Meikle Earnock?

Based on this visit, absolutely!

I’d have no hesitation recommending it to anyone looking for a good scran in Hamilton.

And I’d certainly be happy to return for another fish supper.
