Hamilton certainly isn’t short of Italian restaurants and Gusti D’Italia is one worth checking out.
In fact, we’re pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to finding somewhere for a good pasta, pizza or risotto.
But with so many different restaurants to try, it’s easy to forget about somewhere you’ve already visited and enjoyed.
And that’s exactly what happened with Gusti D’Italia on Townhead Street in Hamilton.
Kirstie and I visited many moons ago and had a cracking meal.
But for whatever reason, we just never made it back.
No particular reason.
No bad experience.
Just one of those places that somehow slipped off the radar.
So when me and the auld yin fancied going out for a scran, I decided it was finally time to pay Gusti D’Italia another visit.
And I’m very glad we did!
Because this was another excellent meal.
Returning to Gusti D’Italia in Hamilton
Now, one thing I always find interesting about returning to a restaurant after a long time is whether it lives up to your memories.
Because sometimes you remember having a brilliant meal somewhere, only to return years later and find that things aren’t quite as good as you remembered.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case here.
Gusti D’Italia was every bit as enjoyable as I remembered.
And considering how long it had been since my previous visit, that was a lovely wee surprise.
Although, to be fair, I’m not entirely sure why it took us so long to return in the first place.
Especially when it’s practically on our doorstep.
But better late than never!
What We Ordered at Gusti D’Italia

For this visit, we decided to go for a couple of starters followed by the same main course.
Our order was:
- Meatballs
- Pâté
- 2 x Fillet Risotto
A fairly straightforward meal.
Nothing too complicated.
But sometimes that’s exactly what you want.
And I have to say, there wasn’t a single bite of the entire meal that I didn’t enjoy.
That’s always a good sign!
Meatballs – A Cracking Starter

Let’s start with the meatballs.
Now, I absolutely love a good portion of meatballs when I’m visiting an Italian restaurant.
Especially when you’ve got a tasty sauce and some bread to go along with them.
And this starter certainly did the job.
The meatballs were really enjoyable, but the combination of the meatballs, sauce and bread was what made it for me.
There’s something so satisfying about having a nice sauce that you can enjoy with a bit of bread.
And I certainly wasn’t complaining here.
A really tasty starter and a cracking way to begin the meal.
Exactly what I was looking for.
Pâté Starter
We also ordered the pâté.
And once again, this was another part of the meal that went down very well.
Sometimes when you’re ordering starters, one dish ends up being the clear favourite.
But on this occasion, I was more than happy with everything we had.
Both starters were thoroughly enjoyed.
And they set us up nicely for the main event.
Although, looking back, perhaps we should have saved a wee bit more room.
Because the risotto portions were absolutely massive! 😂
Fillet Risotto – A Proper Filling Main Course!

Now, let’s talk about the main attraction.
The fillet risotto.
Both of us decided to order the same dish.
And honestly, what a brilliant choice.
This was a very, very filling portion.
You know when you’re eating something and you feel like you’ve been working your way through it for ages?
But every time you look down, there’s still plenty left?
That was this risotto.
It just seemed to go on forever! 😂
And I’m certainly not complaining about that.
Because I thoroughly enjoyed it.
In fact, I genuinely couldn’t fault the dish.
It was one of those meals where you’re enjoying every mouthful, but you’re also starting to wonder whether you’re ever going to reach the bottom of the plate.
And for somebody who enjoys a good-sized portion, that’s never a bad problem to have.
The fillet risotto was definitely the highlight of the meal for me.
A really enjoyable main course and certainly not something that left me looking for more food afterwards.
Excellent Food and Service

Now, as much as I enjoy a good meal, the overall experience matters too.
And I’m delighted to say that the service at Gusti D’Italia was excellent.
Sometimes when you’re writing a restaurant review, there’s a particular criticism or small issue that you feel is worth mentioning.
But honestly?
I couldn’t fault anything about this visit.
The food was excellent.
The service was great.
And we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Sometimes a restaurant simply gets everything right.
And that’s exactly how I’d describe this experience.
No complaints.
No disappointments.
Just a cracking meal from start to finish.

My Final Verdict – Gusti D’Italia Hamilton
Well, I’m delighted we finally made it back to Gusti D’Italia.
After enjoying our previous visit so many years ago, I’m not entirely sure why we left it so long.
But this meal was a great reminder of why we’d enjoyed it in the first place.
The meatballs were lovely, especially with the sauce and bread.
The pâté was thoroughly enjoyed.
And the fillet risotto?
An absolutely cracking main course with a portion that seemed to last forever!
Honestly, there wasn’t a single bite of the entire meal that I didn’t enjoy.
Add in the excellent service, and you’ve got another very successful visit.
