Have you tried Sparkys Bar Mossend?
There’s something about a proper Sunday roast that I absolutely love.
A selection of meats, crispy roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and plenty of gravy.
What’s not to like?
Now, here’s the problem.
I absolutely love eating a Sunday roast. But I have absolutely no intention of cooking one. 😂
Honestly, the thought of spending half my Sunday preparing everything, cooking multiple dishes and then dealing with the mountain of washing up afterwards just doesn’t appeal to me.
I’d much rather somebody else did all the hard work.
Which is exactly why I’ve become interested in trying some of the Sunday roast takeaway boxes available around Lanarkshire.
And the first one I got my hands on came from Sparkys Bar Mossend.
A massive box packed with different meats, potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and all the usual Sunday dinner essentials.
And the price?
£20 for the entire box.
Even better, we managed to get three good servings out of it.
So was the Sunday roast box from Sparkys Bar Mossend worth the money?
Well, I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
In fact, there were two particular items that really stood out.
And one of them was a meat I wouldn’t normally choose first.
Let’s get into it.
Sunday Roast Takeaway From Sparkys Bar Mossend

Now, I’ve seen quite a few places offering Sunday roast boxes recently.
And I can completely understand why they’re becoming a popular option.
Because sometimes you fancy a proper Sunday dinner without having to head out to a restaurant.
Maybe you’re having a lazy Sunday.
Maybe you’ve been busy all weekend.
Or maybe, like me, you simply have no interest in spending hours cooking a roast dinner.
Whatever the reason, having the option to pick up a ready-prepared Sunday roast is a brilliant idea.
And that’s what caught my attention about the offering from Sparkys Bar Mossend, Bellshill.
Rather than ordering individual Sunday dinners, this was a substantial sharing box with a selection of different foods.
Exactly the sort of thing I enjoy trying.
And considering this was the first Sunday roast box I’d picked up for review, I was looking forward to seeing what was included.
Thankfully, there was plenty!
What’s Included in the Sparkys Bar Mossend Sunday Roast Box?
Right, let’s talk about what actually came in the box.
Because this wasn’t simply a wee portion of meat, a couple of potatoes and some gravy.
There was a decent selection of Sunday roast favourites packed inside.
Our box included:
- Three different meats
- A few different types of potatoes
- Large Yorkshire puddings
- A selection of vegetables
- Onion rings
- A few different sauces
- Gravy
Now, that’s what I call a proper Sunday dinner selection!
And one of the things I particularly liked was the variety.
You’ve got different meats to choose from, a selection of potatoes and all the other bits and pieces that make a Sunday roast feel like a complete meal.
I do enjoy having a bit of everything on my plate.
Especially when it comes to a roast dinner.
Because let’s be honest, half the enjoyment is mixing everything together and deciding what you’re going to have with your next forkful.
A bit of meat.
Some potatoes.
A wee bit of veg.
Plenty of gravy.
And perhaps a Yorkshire pudding thrown in for good measure.
Lovely stuff!
But while I enjoyed the box overall, there were two particular things that deserve a special mention.
The Ham – The Surprise Star of the Sunday Roast!

Now, this one genuinely surprised me.
Because out of the three different meats included in the Sunday roast box, the ham was one of the biggest highlights.
And here’s the funny thing.
If you gave me a choice of three meats for a Sunday dinner, ham would probably be the last one I’d pick.
Not because I dislike it.
I just tend to prefer other options.
So I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be one of the standout parts of this meal.
But honestly?
The ham was absolutely delicious!
It was packed with flavour.
And I thoroughly enjoyed it.
In fact, it was so good that it completely changed what I expected to be my favourite meat from the box.
And I love when that happens.
Because when you’re trying different foods, it’s always nice to be pleasantly surprised by something you wouldn’t normally get particularly excited about.
Sometimes you go into a meal expecting one thing to be the star.
And something else comes along and steals the show.
Well, the ham certainly did that here.
A cracking addition to the Sunday roast box.
And definitely one of the things I’d be looking forward to if I ordered it again.
The Roast Potatoes – Absolutely Perfect!

Now, if the ham was the surprise of the meal, the roast potatoes were the other massive highlight.
And I’m going to make a bold statement here.
These roast tatties were absolutely perfect!
Honestly.
Exactly how I like them.
Because for me, a good roast potato needs to get two things right.
The outside needs to have that lovely crispy finish.
And the inside needs to be soft and fluffy.
Get that combination right and you’re already onto a winner.
Well, the roast potatoes from Sparkys Bar Mossend absolutely nailed it.
Crispy on the outside.
Soft and fluffy on the inside.
And just the right amount of salty goodness.
Beautiful!
Now, I appreciate that everybody has their own idea of what makes the perfect roast potato.
Some people like them extra crispy.
Others prefer them a wee bit softer.
But for my personal tastes, these were spot on.
I couldn’t have asked for much more.
And considering roast potatoes are one of my favourite parts of a Sunday dinner, that’s a pretty big compliment.
Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to get absolutely right.
And when a place serves roast tatties this good, I think they deserve plenty of credit.
Top-class tatties!
Yorkshire Puddings, Vegetables and All the Extras
Of course, a Sunday roast isn’t just about the meat and potatoes.
Although, let’s be honest, they’re probably the two things I get most excited about. 😂
You still need all the other bits and pieces to complete the meal.
And Sparkys certainly didn’t leave us short of options.
There were big Yorkshire puddings, vegetables, onion rings, sauces and gravy included in the box.
Along with the selection of different potatoes and meats, it made for a substantial spread.
And that’s one of the biggest appeals of this style of Sunday roast takeaway.
Rather than everyone having to order exactly the same plate of food, you’ve got a selection to share out.
You can choose the things you particularly enjoy and build your own plate.
For me, that’s a brilliant way to serve a takeaway roast dinner.
Especially if you’re sharing with somebody who has slightly different preferences.
Because we all know there’s usually somebody who wants extra potatoes.
Somebody who loves Yorkshire puddings.
And somebody who’s going to make sure they get plenty of gravy.
Personally, I’m just happy when there’s enough of everything to go around.
And with this box, we certainly had plenty to work with.
Is the Sparkys Bar Mossend Sunday Roast Box Good Value?
Now, here’s another thing that impressed me.
The entire Sunday roast box cost £20.
And we managed to get three good servings out of it.
Which works out at approximately:
£6.67 per serving.
Now, I think that’s excellent value for a proper Sunday roast.
Especially when you consider the variety of food included.
Three different meats.
Multiple types of potatoes.
Yorkshire puddings.
Vegetables.
Onion rings.
Sauces.
And gravy.
That’s a fair amount of food for £20.
And when you divide it between three people, it becomes an even more appealing option.
Of course, everybody has different appetites.
And what comfortably feeds three people in one household might not stretch quite as far in another.
But based on our experience, we got three good portions from the box.
And I was more than happy with that.
Because it’s one thing for a takeaway to be affordable.
But it’s another thing entirely when the food is genuinely enjoyable as well.
And thankfully, this box delivered on both fronts.
Why Sunday Roast Takeaway Boxes Are Right Up My Street
Now, I think I’ve already established something fairly important.
I love Sunday roasts.
And…
I’m never going to cook one. 😂
Well, I suppose I should never say never.
But let’s just say there are plenty of things I’d rather be doing on a Sunday than standing in the kitchen preparing a full roast dinner.
And that’s why I think these takeaway Sunday roast boxes are such a good idea.
Because sometimes you don’t fancy heading out for a sit-down meal.
You just want to relax at home.
Maybe put something on the television.
Get yourself a plate of proper comfort food.
And enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Without having to worry about cooking everything yourself.
And that’s exactly what this box allowed us to do.
All the enjoyment of a traditional roast dinner without the preparation.
And more importantly, without the washing up from cooking a dozen different things!
Now that’s my kind of Sunday. 😂
