Lets check out Nonna Said Glasgow.
If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to grab a pizza in Glasgow, have you tried Nonna Said in Merchant City yet?
We popped in to try a couple of their pizzas, along with some wee lasagne bites to start, and I have to say, one of the things that stood out most about the place was the atmosphere.
It’s got a really cool vibe, with a great setup and music that adds to the experience. Definitely somewhere that feels like more than just your usual pizza restaurant.
Where Is Nonna Said Glasgow?
You’ll find Nonna Said at 26 Candleriggs in Glasgow’s Merchant City, right in the heart of an area packed with restaurants, bars and places to enjoy a night out.
The restaurant specialises in Napoli-style pizzas but puts its own spin on things with some unusual topping combinations and a bit of Glaswegian personality.
Rather than sticking entirely to traditional Italian flavours, the menu mixes classic pizzas with some more adventurous creations.
What Is the Atmosphere Like at Nonna Said Glasgow?
This was probably one of my favourite things about our visit.
I really liked the setup of the restaurant, and the music playing when we were in gave the whole place a great atmosphere.
Some restaurants are all about getting your food, eating and heading straight back out. Nonna Said feels like the sort of place where you could happily sit for a while, enjoy the surroundings and make an evening of it.
It’s got a more modern, lively feel than your traditional Italian restaurant, which I think helps it stand out.
If you’re looking for somewhere to grab a pizza before heading out in Glasgow, or even just somewhere different for a casual meal, it’s worth having on your radar.
What Did We Eat at Nonna Said Glasgow?
We decided to order a couple of different pizzas to try, along with some little lasagne cubes to get us started.
Lasagne Bites

Now, lasagne isn’t something you normally expect to be eating in little bite-sized cubes!
Nonna Said has offered a dish called Lasagne Fritta, which takes lasagne and turns it into a fried snack.
It’s certainly a different way to enjoy a classic Italian dish, and exactly the sort of thing that catches my attention when I’m looking through a menu.
We decided to give these a go before moving on to the pizzas.
Trying the Pizzas at Nonna Said Glasgow

Obviously, when you’re visiting somewhere known for its pizzas, you’ve got to give them a try.
We ordered a couple of different ones so we could sample more of the menu.
Nonna Said specialises in Napoli-style pizzas, traditionally known for their thinner centres and raised crusts, cooked at high temperatures.
The restaurant uses wood-fired ovens and offers everything from familiar classics to some pretty unusual combinations.
It’s definitely a menu that gives you plenty of reasons to consider a return visit.
What Else Is on the Nonna Said Menu?
One thing that makes Nonna Said Glasgow a little different is the variety of pizzas available.
Alongside classics such as Margherita and Pepperoni, some of the more unusual options advertised on their menu include:
- Lasagne Pizza – combining two Italian favourites, with lasagne alla bolognese, mozzarella and tomato sauce.
- Salt & Chilli Chicken Pizza – fried chicken, salt and chilli seasoning, spring onion and curry mayo.
- Hot & Spicy Pizza – featuring nduja, pepperoni and chilli oil.
- Ham & Pineapple Pizza – for those who aren’t afraid of the great pineapple-on-pizza debate!
The restaurant has also offered vegan pizza options and a selection of street-food-style sides.
Menus can change, so it’s worth checking the latest selection before visiting.
Would I Go Back to Nonna Said Glasgow?
Absolutely, I wouldn’t be against another visit.
For me, the atmosphere was a big part of the experience. I really liked the restaurant’s setup and the music, and it’s somewhere I’d happily return to try a few different dishes.
There’s still plenty on the menu that I’d be interested in sampling.
Sometimes a restaurant sticks in your mind because of one particular dish, and other times it’s the overall experience that makes you want to return.
Nonna Said certainly made an impression with its atmosphere.
