The Parkville Hotel is one of those local places I’d been meaning to properly get around to reviewing, and after a couple of visits now, I’ve managed to work my way through a decent selection of the menu.
Both visits were positive, but there’s one dish in particular that I’d happily go back for on its own.

First Visit to The Parkville Hotel
First things first, the staff.
The two or three members of staff we dealt with were absolutely great. Really friendly, good energy about them and they got the visit off to a cracking start.
For our starter, we decided just to share a portion of the sriracha chicken wings.
That turned out to be a mistake.
Not because they weren’t good — quite the opposite.
They were so damn delicious that I immediately regretted not ordering a full portion to myself.
Honestly, I could have happily sat there with a massive plate of these wings and called it a day. They were top, top class and easily the highlight of my first visit.
The Scotsman Burger

For our mains, we both decided to go for the Scotsman Burger.
This came loaded with two burgers, a haggis fritter and veg, with a side of fries.
Sandy absolutely loved it and thought it was fantastic.
For me personally, while I did enjoy it, I wasn’t completely blown away by it. There was nothing particularly wrong with the burger, it just wasn’t something I came away desperate to order again.
That’s the beauty of food though — two people can order exactly the same thing and come away with completely different opinions.
One thing I definitely WOULD have again was the mustard mayo we got for dipping.
That stuff was aces. I could have dipped just about everything on the table into it.
Overall, though, it was a really enjoyable first visit and I definitely wanted to return and work my way through some more of the menu.
Especially those wings.

Returning to The Parkville Hotel
On another visit, we decided to mix things up and try a few completely different dishes.
This time we had:
- Haggis fritters
- Salt and chilli chicken
- Chicken tenders
- Singapore chicken fried rice
Once again, the staff were absolutely brilliant and helped us out with some recommendations on what to order.
I’ve been trying to get myself into the habit of choosing dishes I perhaps wouldn’t normally go for, rather than constantly sticking with the safe options.
That paid off massively here.

Singapore Chicken Fried Rice
The surprise winner of the entire meal for me was the Singapore chicken fried rice.
It probably isn’t something I would normally have picked from the menu, but after the recommendation I decided to give it a bash.
What a shout that turned out to be.
It was easily my pick of the bunch and exactly why I’m trying to make a point of ordering different things when I’m out reviewing.
Sometimes you find a new favourite.
We shared the starters as well and both of those were fantastic, making this a much stronger overall meal for me than my previous visit.

My Verdict on The Parkville Hotel
I’ve had a few meals at The Parkville Hotel over the years, but I’d say hands down that the second of these visits was the best experience I’ve had there.
The staff have been brilliant, there’s plenty on the menu still to work my way through and I already know there are dishes I’d happily return for.
Those sriracha chicken wings alone are worth another visit.
The Singapore chicken fried rice was another unexpected winner, and it’s definitely encouraged me to keep taking recommendations and trying dishes outside my usual choices.
There’s also one glaring omission from my visits so far…
I STILL need to try the steak pie.
So I suppose another visit is going to have to happen!
I’m building an interactive map of every food spot I’ve visited over the last few years. It will update with every post I make.
