Happy Garden Hamilton Review – A 6 Item Chinese Takeaway

Have you tried Happy Garden Hamilton?

📍 Happy Garden, Swisscot Avenue, Hamilton

Sometimes a takeaway doesn’t need to completely blow you away to do the job.

And that was pretty much the case when we decided to give Happy Garden Hamilton a try.

Now, whenever I’m trying a Chinese takeaway for the first time, I like to get a decent selection of dishes rather than judging the whole place on one particular item.

After all, Chinese takeaways can be a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes you’ll find somewhere that does an absolutely outstanding curry but the rest of the menu is fairly average. Other times, it’s the salt and chilli dishes or the sides that end up stealing the show.

So I always think it’s worth trying a few different things to get a better idea of what a place has to offer.

And that’s exactly what we did here.

We ordered a decent wee spread of Chinese takeaway classics, including:

  • Rice
  • Salt and chilli chips
  • Beef curry
  • Ribs
  • Chicken balls
  • Wings

Nothing particularly unusual or adventurous on this occasion.

Just a selection of the sort of dishes that most of us have probably ordered from our local Chinese takeaway at some point.

And to be fair, that’s exactly what I was in the mood for.

Sometimes you don’t want to spend ages studying a menu or trying to find the most unusual thing available.

You just want a good old-fashioned Chinese takeaway, a decent selection of your favourites and hopefully a satisfying munch.

So, how did Happy Garden Hamilton get on?

Well, let’s get into it.

What Was the Food Like?

Everything we ordered was perfectly fine and pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a decent local Chinese takeaway.

And I don’t mean that in a negative way whatsoever.

The food was enjoyable, we were happy enough with what we received, and there wasn’t anything that left me feeling particularly disappointed. It was a solid, straightforward Chinese takeaway experience.

However, on the flip side, there wasn’t really one particular dish that jumped out at me and made me think, wow, I absolutely need to come back here for that again!

And that’s probably the best way I can describe the overall experience.

I’ve tried a fair number of Chinese takeaways across Lanarkshire over the years, and every so often you’ll come across somewhere that does one particular dish exceptionally well. Something that sticks in your mind and makes you want to return specifically for it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t quite get that feeling with anything from this order.

But again, that’s not necessarily a criticism.

Not every takeaway needs to reinvent the wheel or serve something completely different from everywhere else. Sometimes you simply want to order your usual favourites, sit down in front of the television and enjoy a good Chinese without any fuss.

And that’s pretty much what we got here.

Good, familiar takeaway food that did the job without necessarily blowing us away.

Would I happily eat from here again? Absolutely. There was nothing wrong with the food that would put me off returning.

Would I go out of my way to choose it over some of the other Chinese takeaways I’ve tried in the area? Based on this particular order, probably not.

And I think that’s a fair assessment.

A perfectly pleasant Chinese takeaway experience, just without that one standout dish that would take it to the next level for me.

Would I Order From Happy Garden Hamilton Again?

Absolutely.

While I wouldn’t say Happy Garden Hamilton stood out as being massively better or worse than other local Chinese takeaways I’ve tried, I had no complaints about the food and I’d have no problem ordering from them again.

If you’re around Hamilton and looking for a local Chinese takeaway, it’s another option worth knowing about.
