Mojito Hamilton Review – Lunch Lovely Bao Buns & Tacos

As I continue working through my older restaurant reviews and getting them uploaded to the Ribz Reviews website, it’s time to revisit somewhere that generated quite a bit of discussion on my Facebook page.

Mojito Hamilton!

When I originally mentioned that we were heading along, there was plenty of feedback from people who had visited before.

So naturally, I was looking forward to seeing what it was like for myself.

This turned out to be a bit of a mixed experience, with some dishes I really enjoyed and others that didn’t quite hit the mark.

But there was one particular item that stood out!

Important Note – Original Visit March 2024

This review is based on my original visit to Mojito Hamilton in March 2024.

I’ve since heard that the restaurant may have changed ownership, although I haven’t confirmed this.

As such, the food, menu, staff and overall experience may be completely different today.

This article is simply a record of my personal experience at the time, rather than a reflection of how the restaurant currently operates.

Our Visit to Mojito Hamilton

There were three of us visiting on this occasion, and we hadn’t made a reservation.

When we arrived, it was clear that the staff were seriously stretched.

They appeared to be understaffed and were absolutely run off their feet.

So firstly, a big thank you to the team for managing to accommodate us despite being so busy.

It’s always worth recognising when staff are doing their best under difficult circumstances.

We decided to order from the lunch menu, along with a couple of additional dishes from the main menu.

Mojito Hamilton Lunch Menu – What Did We Order?

Mojito Hamilton

For our starters, we chose:

  • Pâté
  • Bruschetta
  • BBQ chicken skewer

For our main courses, all three of us ordered the steak and onion ciabatta.

We also decided to try a couple of extras from the main menu:

  • Beef taco
  • Chicken bao bun

A decent selection of dishes, giving us the chance to try a few different things.

Bruschetta – A Lovely Start!

Of the three starters, I personally tried the bruschetta.

And I really enjoyed it!

It was packed with flavour and definitely something I’d happily order again.

A very positive start to the meal.

I didn’t try the pâté or BBQ chicken skewer, so I can’t give a personal opinion on those.

As always, I’d rather stick to reviewing what I’ve actually eaten.

Steak and Onion Ciabatta – A Bit Disappointing

For our mains, all three of us decided to order the steak and onion ciabatta.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of the highlights of the visit.

In all honesty, I wasn’t overly impressed with it.

It just didn’t particularly stand out for me, and it wasn’t something I’d be rushing to order again.

That’s not to say someone else wouldn’t enjoy it.

But based on my personal experience, there were definitely better dishes on the table.

Chicken Bao Bun – The Star of the Show!

Now we’re talking!

The chicken bao bun was absolutely the highlight of my visit to Mojito.

I really enjoyed this one.

In fact, I remember thinking that I could have happily ordered a big pile of them and called that my entire meal! 😂

Sometimes you try a dish that makes you wish you’d ordered more of it.

And this was definitely one of those occasions.

Of everything I personally tasted during our visit, the chicken bao bun was the clear winner.

Beef Taco – Great Filling, Not So Keen on the Shell

We also ordered a beef taco from the main menu.

This was another dish that had its positives and negatives.

The beef filling was right up my street.

I really enjoyed that part.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t particularly fond of the taco shell itself.

And when you’re eating a taco, that’s obviously quite an important part of the overall experience!

So while I enjoyed the flavours of the filling, the complete dish didn’t quite work for me.

My Overall Mojito Hamilton Review

Looking back at our visit, I’d describe Mojito Hamilton as a restaurant that had its ups and downs.

There were definitely some positives.

The highlights for me were:

  • The flavourful bruschetta.
  • The chicken bao bun, which was easily my favourite dish.
  • The staff doing their best to accommodate us despite being extremely busy.

On the other hand, the steak and onion ciabatta didn’t particularly impress me, and I wasn’t keen on the taco shell.

Overall, it was a mixed experience.

But that’s something I always try to emphasise with my reviews.

Food is incredibly subjective.

Something I don’t particularly enjoy could easily be someone else’s favourite dish.

And one visit doesn’t necessarily tell you everything about a restaurant.

At the time of my original review, I wasn’t particularly eager to rush back.

Not because the experience was terrible, but simply because there were so many other restaurants I wanted to try.

However, with the possibility of new ownership since my March 2024 visit, it could be interesting to return and see how things compare.

Perhaps the menu has changed completely.

Perhaps the food is different.

And perhaps I’d have an entirely different experience.

That’s something I’d certainly be open to finding out.

Have You Visited Mojito Hamilton Recently?

This is where I’d particularly love to hear from people who have visited more recently.

Has Mojito changed ownership since March 2024?

And if you’ve been lately, what’s the food like now?

I’d love to hear whether the menu has changed and which dishes you’d recommend.

As always, this review reflects my personal experience from one particular visit.

I’d encourage anyone interested in trying Mojito to form their own opinion.
