Café at No.44 Dollar Review – A Cracking Breakfast After a Hike!

Have you tried Cafe at no.44?

Sometimes the best places to eat are the ones you discover completely by accident.

No recommendations.

No research.

No spending hours looking through reviews.

Just finding somewhere that looks decent and giving it a go!

And that’s exactly what happened when we stumbled across Café at No.44 in Dollar, Clackmannanshire.

We’d been out for a hike and were looking for somewhere to get a good bit of scran afterwards.

And I’ll tell you something…

What a cracking wee find this turned out to be!

I went for a loaded breakfast on sourdough toast, while Bridie opted for the soup of the day.

And there was one particular part of my breakfast that absolutely stole the show.

Let’s get into it!

Please note: This review is based on an older visit. Menu items, ingredients, prices and availability may have changed since then.

Finding Café at No.44 in Dollar

After finishing our hike, we decided to find somewhere nearby for something to eat.

We hadn’t planned anything in advance.

There was no recommendation from friends or followers.

And I hadn’t spent any time researching the best cafés in Dollar.

We simply ended up at Café at No.44.

And sometimes that’s the best way to discover somewhere new.

There’s something satisfying about walking into a café without any expectations and leaving genuinely impressed.

That’s exactly how I felt after this visit.

The Braw – A Scottish Breakfast on Sourdough Toast!

Now, let’s talk about the food.

I decided to order something from the café’s On Toast section of the menu.

And the dish was called The Braw.

A very appropriate name for a Scottish breakfast if you ask me! 😂

Here’s what was included:

  • Two free-range eggs
  • Buttered sourdough toast
  • Smoked bacon
  • Pork sausage
  • Black pudding
  • Haggis
  • Baked beans
  • Tattie scone

Now that’s my kind of breakfast!

A proper selection of Scottish breakfast favourites, all served with sourdough toast.

You’ve got your bacon, sausage, haggis, black pudding and tattie scone.

And then the eggs and beans to finish things off.

An unreal wee scran!

Scrambled Eggs – Absolutely Delicious!

When ordering The Braw, I decided to have my eggs scrambled.

And what a decision that turned out to be!

Honestly…

The scrambled eggs were absolutely delicious!

Sometimes it’s the simplest parts of a meal that make the biggest impression.

And these eggs were fantastic.

They were easily one of the highlights of the breakfast.

I’ve eaten plenty of scrambled eggs over the years, but these really stood out.

I’m delighted I chose them rather than going for my usual preference.

A cracking choice!

The Sourdough Toast – Phenomenal!

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking.

How excited can somebody really get about a piece of toast?

Well, apparently quite excited! 😂

Because the sourdough toast at Café at No.44 was phenomenal.

Honestly, I couldn’t fault it.

When you’ve got a breakfast featuring bacon, sausage, haggis, black pudding and all the usual favourites, you might expect the toast to be a bit of an afterthought.

But not here.

It was one of the standout parts of the entire meal.

The combination of the scrambled eggs and buttered sourdough worked brilliantly.

And with all the other breakfast ingredients alongside them, it made for a fantastic plate of food.

Sometimes you don’t need anything overly complicated.

Just good ingredients, prepared well.

And this breakfast delivered exactly that.

Soup of the Day – Carrot and Coriander

Bridie decided to go for something a little lighter.

She ordered the soup of the day, which I believe was carrot and coriander.

I didn’t personally try the soup, so I can’t give you a detailed review of the flavour.

But it was another option on the menu for anyone who wasn’t looking for a full breakfast.

And after a hike, a nice bowl of soup is certainly another way to warm yourself up!

Was Café at No.44 Worth Visiting?

Absolutely!

What made this visit even better was that we hadn’t planned it.

We didn’t arrive with massive expectations.

We hadn’t been told by dozens of people that we needed to try it.

We simply picked somewhere at random.

And it turned out to be a fantastic choice.

My breakfast was absolutely beautiful.

The scrambled eggs were delicious.

The sourdough toast was phenomenal.

And the combination of traditional Scottish breakfast ingredients made The Braw a really enjoyable meal.

Not a single complaint from me!

It’s exactly the sort of place I love discovering when travelling around Scotland.

My Overall Café at No.44 Dollar Review

All in all, this was an excellent wee find.

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy breakfast or brunch in Dollar, I’d certainly recommend considering Café at No.44.

The Braw was right up my street.

A proper Scottish breakfast served on buttered sourdough toast, with all the usual favourites.

But the two things that really stood out were the scrambled eggs and the toast.

Both absolutely fantastic.

And considering we found the café completely by chance, that made the experience even better.

Would I return?

Without hesitation!

If I’m ever back in the area, I’d happily stop in for another breakfast.

And I’d be very tempted to order The Braw again.

Bravo, Café at No.44! 👏🏻
