House of India Hamilton Review – King Kebab & Spicy Chicken Pizza

When it comes to Indian takeaways in Hamilton, everyone seems to have their favourites. But few places have divided opinion on my Facebook page quite like House of India in Hamilton.

When I originally mentioned that I was planning to visit, the recommendations were all over the place!

Some people were telling me to avoid it completely, while others were claiming it served some of the best kebab meat you could find anywhere.

With opinions that different, there was only one thing for it.

I had to try it for myself!

So, I headed along to House of India to try their pizza and kebab combo.

A quick note before we get started: This review is from a previous visit some time ago. The prices and offers mentioned were correct at the time of my visit but may no longer be available.

House of India Hamilton – £12 Pizza and Kebab Combo

On my visit, House of India had a pizza and kebab combination deal available for just £12.

For that, I received:

  • 10-inch spicy chicken pizza
  • King donner kebab

Now, regardless of how the food turned out, I thought that was fantastic value for the amount of food involved.

And believe me, there was plenty of it!

A full pizza alongside a king donner kebab is certainly a substantial takeaway order.

Please remember that the £12 price relates to my original visit. I haven’t checked whether House of India still offers this particular deal or what the current price might be.

But at the time, I was impressed by the value.

Spicy Chicken Pizza – A Really Enjoyable Pizza!

House of India

First up was the 10-inch spicy chicken pizza.

And I’ve got to say, I really enjoyed this one!

It was a tasty pizza and definitely something I’d happily eat again.

Sometimes when you’re ordering a combination deal, you wonder whether one part of the meal is going to be noticeably better than the other.

In this case, the pizza was certainly the highlight for me.

No major complaints here.

A really nice spicy chicken pizza that I’d have no hesitation ordering again.

King Donner Kebab – Is It Really Hamilton’s Best?

Now, this was the part of the meal I was particularly interested in trying.

Before visiting House of India, several people had told me that their donner kebab meat was among the best you could find anywhere.

That’s quite a claim!

And naturally, it raised my expectations.

Unfortunately, I can’t say I agreed.

Don’t get me wrong, the kebab wasn’t terrible.

In fact, I remember describing it as “pleasant enough” during the review.

And I think that sums it up quite nicely.

It was okay.

Nothing particularly special, but certainly not the worst kebab I’ve ever eaten either.

A Bit Too Much Grease for My Liking

One thing that did stand out, unfortunately, was just how greasy the kebab became.

Now, I’m certainly not expecting a king donner kebab to be a health food!

When you’re ordering that amount of kebab meat, you’re naturally going to expect a certain level of grease.

That’s part of the experience.

However, as I worked my way down through the meat, I noticed quite a substantial amount of grease collecting around the box and soaking into the naan bread.

And for me, it was considerably more than I’d normally expect.

It definitely took away from my enjoyment of the kebab.

Perhaps I caught them on an off day, or perhaps that’s simply how their kebab meat was prepared at the time.

Either way, I can only judge what I was served during my visit.

And while it was pleasant enough, it certainly wasn’t the outstanding kebab that some people had promised me.

Was the House of India Pizza and Kebab Deal Worth £12?

Absolutely!

At the time of my visit, I thought the amount of food you received for £12 represented excellent value.

The spicy chicken pizza was really enjoyable, and although the king donner kebab didn’t particularly impress me, it was still edible and decent enough.

If you’re judging the deal purely on portion size and price, I thought it was very good.

However, value for money and overall food quality aren’t necessarily the same thing.

And while I was happy with the amount of food, the kebab stopped this from being a particularly memorable takeaway experience.

My Overall House of India Hamilton Review

So, after hearing so many conflicting opinions about House of India, where did I land?

Somewhere in the middle, to be honest!

The spicy chicken pizza was lovely and something I’d happily have again.

The king donner kebab, on the other hand, was fairly average in my opinion.

The excessive grease was disappointing, particularly after hearing so many glowing recommendations about the kebab meat.

But I wouldn’t go as far as saying it was a bad takeaway.

My overall verdict? An average scran.

Nothing particularly outstanding, but nothing disastrous either.

And considering the price I paid at the time, I certainly couldn’t complain about the quantity of food.

Would I Order From House of India Hamilton Again?

This is where I’m a wee bit undecided.

Would I rush back based purely on this experience?

Probably not.

However, if House of India introduced another particularly good deal, I’d certainly consider giving it another go.

After all, this review was from a while ago, and things can change.

It would actually be interesting to return and see whether my opinion would be any different today.

Perhaps I’d discover why so many people were raving about the kebab meat!

Have You Tried House of India in Hamilton?

Now, I already know this review is going to divide opinion!

When I originally asked about House of India, there were people who absolutely loved it and others who weren’t particularly keen.

And that’s one of the things I enjoy most about reviewing local takeaways.

We all have different tastes and experiences.

Just because something wasn’t particularly memorable for me doesn’t mean someone else won’t absolutely love it.

So I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

Is House of India one of Hamilton’s best Indian takeaways, or do you think there are better options nearby?

And more importantly, if you’ve ordered from there recently, has anything changed since my visit?

Let me know!
