Tony Macaroni Review – A Meal of 2 Halves

This meal at Tony Macaroni was definitely a tale of two halves for me.

One part of the meal massively exceeded my expectations.

The other?

Unfortunately, it left me wondering where all the flavour had gone.

Let’s start with the good stuff…

The Sharing Platter

Tony Macaroni

The highlight of the meal for me was easily the starter sharing platter.

It came loaded with a selection of different bits including wings, ribs, mozzarella sticks, battered mushrooms and a few other things to get stuck into.

Honestly?

I enjoyed every bit of it.

We ordered it to share, but I would quite happily have sat there myself and battered through the entire thing.

There was plenty of variety, everything worked well together and it was exactly the kind of starter platter I enjoy.

In fact, by the end of the meal, I almost wished I’d just kept going with the platter!

Kirstie’s Burger

Kirstie went down the burger route for her main.

She ordered a BBQ-style burger with cheese and pulled pork, which looked like a proper loaded number when it arrived.

More importantly, she really enjoyed it.

Obviously I had to get a wee taste for review purposes…

😂

And to be fair, the bit I tried was pretty tasty.

So at this point, things were going very well.

Great starter.

Kirstie was enjoying her burger.

Then my pasta arrived…

Unfortunately, My Pasta Was a Let Down

Now people have been raving to me about the Tony Macaroni pastas so I have to say I was looking forward to this and maybe thats where the trouble lies.

This was disappointing.

On paper, the pasta dish sounded absolutely spot on and exactly like something I’d normally enjoy.

Unfortunately, what arrived just didn’t deliver on the flavour.

It wasn’t necessarily horrible.

It was just… bland.

There wasn’t really any notable flavour coming through, and the beef strips in particular seemed almost completely unseasoned.

And the reason I know what completely unseasoned beef tastes like?

Because that’s exactly how I cook mine at home. 😂

When you’re eating out, though, you’re hoping for slightly better than Ribz standing in the kitchen chucking beef into a frying pan!

Considering how good the dish sounded from the description, I expected considerably more from it.

The Ribz Verdict

This is a difficult one to sum up because different parts of the meal gave me completely different experiences.

The sharing platter exceeded my expectations. I’d happily order that again and could probably make a meal out of it on its own.

Kirstie’s burger also went down very well, and the bit I managed to steal was tasty.

But unfortunately, my pasta was the major disappointment of the meal.

When a dish sounds perfect for you on paper and then arrives lacking any real flavour, it’s always going to leave you a bit deflated.

So overall?

There were definitely things I enjoyed at Tony Macaroni, and that starter platter deserves plenty of praise.

But as good as the starter was, based on my main course I’m not sure I’d be rushing back.

Maybe I just picked the wrong dish.

What We Tried

🍝 Disappointment: My pasta dish

⭐ Overall: A real mixed bag

🔄 Would I rush back? Probably not based on this visit
