If there’s one thing I’m always happy to do, it’s give a wee shout out to a good local bakery.
This time we’re heading to Barry Douglas Home Bakery in Burnbank, Hamilton.
And I’m just going to get straight to the point…
TOP TIER TARTAGE.

I picked up a wee selection of sweet and savoury stuff to give the place a try, but there was one clear winner.
The raspberry tart.
And honestly, it wasn’t even close.

The Raspberry Tart
Absolutely ELITE.
And I’m talking ELITE!
I was genuinely blown away by this thing. One of those cakes where you take the first bite and immediately know you’ve made a very good decision.
I did not want it to end.
Sometimes you get something from a bakery that’s perfectly nice, enjoy it, then forget all about it.
This was not one of those occasions.
I was still thinking about that raspberry tart afterwards, which obviously means I’ll need to go back and get another one purely for research purposes.
It would be irresponsible not to confirm my findings.

Pineapple Tart
I also tried one of the pineapple tarts.
Again, very good.
I enjoyed it, but it just didn’t hit me the same way as the raspberry one did.
Maybe the raspberry had set the bar too high by that point, because anything coming after it was going to have a difficult job competing.
Still a solid wee tart, though.

Chicken Curry Bake
Moving onto the savoury side of things, I managed to get my wee mitts on a chicken curry bake.
Very enjoyable.
A proper bakery-style savoury option and something I’d happily pick up again if I was passing and fancied a quick bite.

Cheese & Onion Pasty
Last up was the cheese and onion pasty.
Again, no complaints from me here.
Another enjoyable savoury option and, alongside the chicken curry bake, it made for a pretty successful first visit.
But neither of them was taking that crown away from the raspberry tart.
Final Verdict
A cracking wee local bakery in Burnbank and definitely somewhere I’ll be returning to.
The chicken curry bake and cheese and onion pasty were both very enjoyable, the pineapple tart was good…
But that raspberry tart was the absolute star of the show.
I’ll get myself a completely different selection next time I’m passing and slowly work my way through some more of the counter.
Although there’s a very strong chance another raspberry tart accidentally finds its way into the bag.
Well played, Baz. Well played.
