Getting from Scotland to Las Vegas isn’t always as simple as jumping on one plane.
For this Vegas trip, our journey actually started the day before our flight to America, travelling from Edinburgh down to London and staying overnight before continuing on to Las Vegas the following morning.
Rather than trying to connect everything on the same day, we decided to give ourselves a bit of breathing room and spend the night at a Premier Inn near the airport.
Here’s how the first part of our journey went — including possibly one of the worst burgers I’ve had in an airport!
Starting Our Journey at Edinburgh Airport

Our trip started at Edinburgh Airport with a flight down to London.
Whenever we’re travelling long haul, I quite like the idea of getting down to the airport we’re flying from the day before. It adds the cost of a hotel stay, but it also takes away some of the stress of relying on a domestic flight connecting perfectly with an international one.
And with Vegas ahead of us, we were happy to get the travelling started a day early.
First, though, we needed some food.

Trying the Burger King Breakfast Burger at Edinburgh Airport

Before our flight, we stopped at Burger King in Edinburgh Airport and I decided to try one of their breakfast burgers.
This was not a good start to the food on this trip.
I’ve eaten plenty of questionable food while travelling, but this one definitely wasn’t for me.
The breakfast burger ended up being the terrible burger you see at the beginning of our YouTube video — thankfully, the food improved considerably from there!

Flying From Edinburgh to London
After breakfast, it was time for the short flight from Edinburgh down to London.
For Scottish travellers heading to Las Vegas, travelling via London is one of the options worth considering when looking at flights.
For this trip, rather than arriving in London and immediately trying to make our connection, we’d booked an overnight stay.
Staying at Premier Inn Before Our Las Vegas Flight
Once we’d arrived in London, we made our way to the Premier Inn where we’d be spending the night.
Airport hotels aren’t normally the most exciting part of a trip, but there’s something different about that night before a big holiday.
You’ve done the first part of the travelling, the bags are packed and you know that when you wake up in the morning you’re finally heading to Vegas.
It also meant we could relax for the evening rather than worrying about another flight.
Dinner at the Premier Inn Restaurant

We decided to keep things simple that night and eat at the restaurant inside the hotel.
Between us, we went for a mixed grill and fish and chips.
Nothing particularly extravagant — especially considering where we were heading the following day — but exactly the sort of easy meal we wanted after travelling down from Scotland.
After dinner, it was time to get some sleep because the real journey was about to begin.

Is Staying Overnight in London Worth It Before Flying to Las Vegas?
For me, one of the biggest advantages is simply removing some of the stress from the journey.
If you’re travelling from Scotland and your Las Vegas flight leaves from London, attempting to position yourself in London on the same morning introduces another thing that can potentially go wrong.
An overnight hotel obviously adds another expense to the trip, so whether it’s worthwhile will depend on your flight times, prices and how comfortable you are with connections.
Personally, I like knowing we’re already where we need to be the night before a long-haul flight.
It also turns the journey into part of the trip rather than something we just need to get through.
Watch Our Journey From Scotland to London
I filmed the whole first day of the trip, including our Edinburgh Airport breakfast, flight to London, arrival at the hotel and dinner that evening.
The next morning, it was finally time for the main event — flying from London to Las Vegas.
Planning a Trip From Scotland to Las Vegas?
I’m building a growing collection of guides, reviews and videos based on our own trips to Las Vegas, all from the perspective of a Scottish traveller.
As the Vegas section grows, you’ll be able to find everything from our flights and hotels to restaurants, cheap eats, attractions and things I wish I’d known before visiting.
