There seem to be more and more brilliant home bakers popping up at the moment, and this time I got the chance to try a taster treat box from a relatively new baker called Dough n Rise.
The box had a good mixture of treats from their menu, including cookies, loaded rolls and some smaller sweet treats, so it was a great way to try a few different things at once.
The Cookies
First up, the cookies were exactly how I like them — really soft.
I’m definitely on the soft and gooey side of the cookie debate rather than wanting them crunchy, so these went down very well.
They had that thick, homemade style that you want from a treat box, and if you’re a fan of softer cookies, these should be right up your street.
The Surprise Standout – The Lemon Cup
The biggest surprise of the whole box for me was the wee lemon cup.
On first viewing, it was probably the item in the box that appealed to me the least. With everything else sitting there, I genuinely didn’t expect this to be my favourite.
But the flavour was so good.
It ended up being the absolute standout of the box for me and the one I’d be most interested in getting again.
Sometimes it’s the thing you’re least excited about that completely surprises you!
Loaded Rolls
The loaded rolls all went down a treat as well, which was pretty much exactly what I expected when I saw them.
Big, indulgent and ideal if you’re ordering a treat box and want something a little different alongside the cookies and other sweet options.
Overall Thoughts
There are so many good home bakers appearing around Scotland at the moment, and Dough n Rise is another one worth keeping an eye on.
For me, the lemon cup was the surprise winner, but the softness of the cookies was another big plus.
