Windmill Tavern Motherwell Review – One of the Best Value Pub Lunches I’ve Tried

Time to check out The Windmill Tavern Motherwell

Good food is one thing.

Good food at a ridiculously good price is even better.

That was probably my biggest takeaway after visiting The Windmill Tavern in Motherwell for lunch.

This is another proper local Motherwell pub serving traditional pub grub, and after trying several dishes between us, I came away seriously impressed.

The food was good, the staff were lovely and the value for money was right up there with some of the best I’ve found locally.

What We Ordered

Between us, we tried:

  • Garlic mushrooms
  • Buffalo wings
  • Macaroni cheese
  • Chicken Chasni

There was plenty I enjoyed, but the Chicken Chasni was probably the biggest surprise of the visit.

Buffalo Wings

The windmill Tavern Motherwell

We’ll get the obvious one out of the way first.

The Buffalo wings were the business.

Anyone who has followed my reviews will know that putting Buffalo sauce on chicken is one of the easiest ways to get my attention.

I’ve eaten Buffalo wings, tenders and bites all over the place and somehow I’m still not bored of them.

These were another success.

I obviously don’t need much convincing when Buffalo chicken is involved, but I’d happily have these again.

Chicken Chasni – The Standout for Value

The Chicken Chasni was the dish that really impressed me.

Not just because I enjoyed the curry itself, but because of everything that came with it.

This wasn’t simply a bowl of curry with the rest ordered separately.

It was basically an all-in-one Indian meal.

You got:

Chicken Chasni + rice + naan + poppadoms + spiced onions.

That’s one helluva scran for one portion.

At the time of my visit, you could get a course for around £7, so being able to choose the Chasni and receive the full works made this feel like tremendous value for money.

Menus and prices can obviously change, so check the latest offering before visiting, but based on what I received that day, I couldn’t complain whatsoever.

Macaroni Cheese

The macaroni cheese was another winner.

Proper cheesy comfort food and a good-sized portion, served alongside chips.

This is exactly the type of thing I expect to see on a traditional pub menu.

There’s nothing complicated about macaroni cheese and chips, but when it’s done properly it’s very difficult to beat.

And this one went down extremely well.

Garlic Mushrooms

We also tried the garlic mushrooms.

Having several different dishes across the table gave us a decent look at what the Windmill Tavern was offering rather than judging the entire place on a single main course.

And overall, it was a very successful lunch.

The Value Is Difficult to Ignore

This is probably the biggest reason I’d recommend keeping The Windmill Tavern on your radar.

There are plenty of places around Lanarkshire where you can get a good pub lunch.

Finding somewhere that combines good portions, enjoyable food and genuinely impressive prices is becoming increasingly difficult.

The Chicken Chasni summed the place up perfectly for me.

Curry, rice, naan, poppadoms and spiced onions all together for the price I paid at the time?

How can you not be impressed by that?

Lovely Staff Too

The staff deserve a mention as well.

Everyone was lovely during our visit.

It’s something that can easily get overlooked when talking about food, but friendly service makes a massive difference to whether I’d actually want to return somewhere.

Good food, good value and lovely staff.

You’re ticking most of the important boxes there.

It’s a traditional local Motherwell pub and another option worth considering if you’re looking for a straightforward pub lunch in the area.

As always, I’d recommend checking directly with the venue for its latest food times, menus and prices before making a special journey.

Is The Windmill Tavern Worth Trying for Lunch?

Absolutely.

The Buffalo wings were always going to keep me happy, the macaroni cheese was fantastic and the staff were lovely.

But the Chicken Chasni was the thing that really stood out.

Getting the curry, rice, naan, poppadoms and spiced onions together made it a seriously substantial meal, especially considering what I paid at the time.

When it comes to value for money, The Windmill Tavern is definitely up there with some of the best local pub lunches I’ve tried.

Good food.

Lovely staff.

Incredible value.

That’s going in my basket!

My pick: Chicken Chasni
Also loved: Buffalo wings
Biggest strength: Value for money
Would I return? Absolutely.
